When the Protector Becomes the Predator

"He needs to remain nameless. Just a nameless thug who is better remembered as a monster than humanized with a name."

In the latest installment of our journey, Chapter 13: The Lamb, we dive deep into the cooling embers of Billy’s humanity. If you thought the physical battles were tough, the psychological toll of the Tower has just upped the ante.

The Ghost of a Child’s Promise

Before we face the frost of the present, we’re taken back to a memory that defines Billy. Long before the Necrid fire and the Void, there was a boy, a girl named Tiffany, and a promise to "steal everyone's weapons." We see the first time those "void-like eyes" appeared—staring down a monster while holding a gun named Ivory. This isn't just a flashback; it’s a blueprint for the man Billy is forced to become.

Maranboe: The Puppet Master of the Many

The atmosphere atop the tower has shifted from a fight for survival to a horror show. Maranboe isn't just an enemy; he’s a parasite that turns your loved ones into megaphones for his discord. Watching Rachel’s calculated grace be replaced by the jerky, masculine movements of a "Many-headed" god is a visceral reminder that in this world, "safe" is a relative term.

Highlights from the Rooftop:

  • The "Mighty Boot": Leave it to Pheo to provide a moment of comedic gold in a bleak situation. Who knew Terry’s severed leg could be such an effective—and disrespectful—weapon?

  • The Cost of Mercy: Billy’s "devouring" of Rachel isn't an act of hunger; it’s an act of silence. To save her from being Maranboe’s mouthpiece, he has to consume the very friend he tried to protect.

  • Shadow Walk Unlocked: The Void is growing. Billy’s new ability to slip through darkness like an open door makes him a lethal ghost on the battlefield—but it also makes him look even less human to his terrified allies.

The Ticking Time Bombs

The chapter closes on a chilling realization. As Billy descends the tower, clearing the path with the efficiency of a shark, he doesn't look back at Andrea, Israel, or Terry with relief. He looks at them with cold acceptance.

Maranboe’s parting gift wasn't a wound—it was a seed of doubt. If everyone is infected, if it's only a matter of time... then Billy isn't a leader anymore. He’s a shepherd waiting for his flock to turn so he can put them down.

"The Lamb has become the Wolf, and the distance between him and his team is now a canyon."
